Terms, Conditions, and Important Disclosures
This Boarding Agreement governs the terms and conditions under which Home Away From Home Pet Boarding Day Care (referred to as “Home Away From Home,” “we,” or “our”) will accept and care for your pet(s) (referred to as “pet,” “pets,” or “guest”). This agreement is designed to protect both the pet owner and the facility and to ensure safe, humane, and reliable care. By signing the boarding contract and leaving your pet in our care, you acknowledge that you have read, understand, and agree to the following terms.
Agreement Sections
Owner Information and Authorization
- The owner must provide current contact information, an emergency contact, and the name and number of the pet’s current veterinarian.
- The owner authorizes Home Away From Home to provide routine and emergency care for the pet as described in this agreement.
- The owner confirms they are the legal owner of the pet and have the authority to enter into this agreement.
Vaccination and Health Requirements
- Proof of current vaccinations is required for all pets prior to boarding or daycare enrollment. For dogs, required vaccinations typically include Rabies, DHPP (or equivalent core inoculation), and Bordetella for group environments. For cats, core vaccinations and current FVRCP are required.
- Titer tests may be accepted in lieu of certain vaccines if accompanied by veterinary documentation.
- Pets with contagious illnesses, parasitic infestations, or signs of active disease will not be accepted. In the event a pet becomes ill during a stay, the owner may be required to pick up the pet immediately and seek veterinary care.
Payment and Fees
- Rates are established for boarding, daycare, and grooming services and are due at the time of check-out unless other arrangements are agreed upon in writing.
- A deposit may be required for holiday periods and extended stays. Deposits are non-refundable unless otherwise stated.
- Additional charges may apply for medication administration, special diet handling, extended stays, emergency veterinary care, or special care requests.
- Late pick-up fees will be applied if pets are not collected by the agreed-upon time without prior notice.
Admission and Temperament Assessment
- Home Away From Home reserves the right to refuse admission to any pet deemed aggressive, ill, or incompatible with facility operations.
- A temperament evaluation may be required before admission to group play or boarding placements. Pets displaying severe aggression or dangerous behavior may be required to remain in single-occupancy housing or may be denied services for safety reasons.
Care and Feeding
- Owners must provide feeding instructions and any special diet items in clearly labeled containers. If no food is provided, standard facility food may be used at the owner’s request or as a last resort; owners are responsible for any adverse reactions due to facility-provided food.
- Medications must be provided in original containers with dosing instructions. Home Away From Home will administer medications as instructed and maintain a log of administrations.
Emergency Veterinary Care and Authorization
- In the event of illness or injury requiring veterinary attention, Home Away From Home will attempt to contact the owner or emergency contact immediately. If immediate care is required and the owner cannot be reached, the facility is authorized to seek veterinary treatment at the owner’s expense.
- The owner is responsible for all veterinary care charges incurred during the pet’s boarding stay, whether obtained by Home Away From Home or directly by the owner.
Liability and Indemnification
- Home Away From Home will exercise reasonable care and diligence in the care and handling of pets but is not liable for sickness, death, escape, or injury unless caused by proven gross negligence or willful misconduct.
- The owner agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Home Away From Home for any claims arising from the pet’s behavior while under the facility’s care, including bites, injuries, or damage to other animals or property.
- The owner is responsible for any legal costs associated with defense of claims arising from their pet’s conduct.
Release of Liability for Preexisting Conditions
- The owner certifies that they have disclosed all known physical and behavioral conditions and that the pet is fit for normal activity unless otherwise documented by a veterinarian.
- Home Away From Home is not responsible for exacerbation of preexisting conditions unless the condition was undisclosed at intake.
Bedding, Toys, and Belongings
- Owners may bring familiar bedding or toys labeled with the pet’s name. Home Away From Home is not responsible for lost, damaged, or destroyed items. Fragile toys or items causing safety concerns may be withheld during the stay.
Length of Stay and Late Pickup
- The owner agrees to pick up the pet on the agreed date. If the owner fails to pick up a pet within seven days of the agreed end date and does not make arrangements, the facility may assume abandonment and may, after reasonable attempts to contact the owner, place the pet in appropriate care, adopt, or surrender to a rescue organization in accordance with local law. The owner remains responsible for all fees.
Photo and Video Authorization
- Owners grant Home Away From Home permission to take photos or videos of their pet for monitoring, promotional, or social media purposes unless specifically withheld in writing.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
- This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii. Any disputes arising from this agreement will be addressed through mediation or small claims proceedings as appropriate.
Acknowledgement and Signature
- By signing the boarding agreement, the owner acknowledges understanding of the above terms, certifies that all information provided is accurate, and authorizes Home Away From Home to provide care under these conditions.
- The owner acknowledges that questions have been answered to their satisfaction and that they have the right to withdraw the pet at any time, subject to the facility’s pickup policies.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are vaccines required?
Vaccination requirements protect all pets by minimizing the risk of communicable diseases in group environments. Vaccinations are a core public health measure to protect pets and staff.
What if I refuse emergency veterinary care?
By signing, owners authorize the facility to act in good faith in emergencies. If an owner refuses necessary emergency care when it’s not feasible to contact them, it may place the pet’s health at risk and could be considered a violation of the agreement.
Can I change or cancel a reservation?
Cancellation policies vary by season and the specifics of the booking. Deposits for holiday stays are often non-refundable. Contact us as early as possible to discuss adjustments.
Who pays for damages or injuries caused by my pet?
Owners are financially responsible for any injury or property damage caused by their pet, including veterinary bills for injured animals and costs to repair or replace damaged property.
