Rules, Health Standards, Fees, and Operational Procedures

This Boarding Policy outlines Home Away From Home Pet Boarding Day Care’s standard practices for boarding pets, including health and vaccination requirements, arrival and pickup procedures, fees and cancellations, behavior guidelines, and emergency protocols. The policy ensures the safety and comfort of all guests while providing clarity for owners.

Reservation and Booking Procedures

  • Reservations are recommended and required for peak seasons and holidays. Reservations may be made by phone at (808) 397-8877.
  • A deposit may be required for holiday stays to hold space. Deposit requirements will be communicated at booking time.
  • Walk-ins are accepted only if space is available and all intake requirements are met.

 Required Documentation

  • Proof of current vaccinations must be presented at check-in. For dogs: Rabies, DHPP (or equivalent), and Bordetella for group environments. For cats: Rabies and FVRCP.
  • Veterinary records should also include proof of recent flea/tick prevention treatments and any relevant medical history.
  • Owners must complete an intake form listing emergency contacts, veterinarian information, medication instructions, feeding schedules, known behavioral issues, and authorization for emergency veterinary care.

Drop-Off and Pickup Hours

  • Drop-off hours: Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–11:00 AM; Saturday 8:30 AM–10:30 AM. Contact prior to arrival for exceptions.
  • Pickup hours: Monday–Friday 3:00 PM–5:30 PM; Saturday 2:00 PM–4:00 PM. Sunday pickups by appointment only.
  • Late pick-up fees may be charged if pets are not picked up during designated hours without prior arrangement.

Fees, Payments, and Cancellations

  • Boarding rates are quoted at the time of booking and may vary by kennel type, length of stay, and special care needs.
  • Payment is due at checkout unless prepayment arrangements have been made.
  • Cancellation policies differ during holidays and peak seasons; deposits may be non-refundable. Cancel as early as possible to minimize fees and free space for others.

Health and Illness Policies

  • Pets exhibiting signs of contagious disease (vomiting, diarrhea, coughing, nasal discharge, lethargy) will not be accepted until cleared by a veterinarian.
  • If a pet becomes ill during boarding, they will be isolated and the owner contacted. If the owner cannot be reached, the emergency contact will be notified. If immediate veterinary care is required, we will seek treatment and the owner will be responsible for costs.
  • Parasite Control: Evidence of fleas or ticks upon arrival may result in treatment at the owner’s expense and possible quarantine.

Behavior and Temperament Standards

  • Aggressive or extremely fearful pets may be refused boarding or require individual housing with an additional fee.
  • Owners must disclose any history of aggression, biting, or reactivity. Failure to disclose behavioral problems that result in injury or property damage may result in immediate termination of services with the owner responsible for costs incurred.
  • Resource guarding behaviors (over food, toys) will be managed by staff but may necessitate separate feeding and housing arrangements.

Supervision and Playtime

  • Supervised play groups are offered based on temperament and staff availability. Not all boarded dogs will be placed in group play; decisions are based on assessments to minimize risk.
  • Outdoor exercise and bathroom breaks are provided multiple times daily and logged for owner review if requested.

Medications and Special Care

  • All medications must be supplied in original prescription containers with specific dosing instructions. We do not split doses from improperly labeled containers.
  • Administering medications requires clear written instructions. Additional fees may apply for medication administration.

Bedding, Toys, and Personal Belongings

  • Owners may provide bedding and safe toys, labeled with pet’s name. Home Away From Home is not responsible for lost or damaged items. Items posing safety risks may be removed during stay.

Grooming and Additional Services

  • Grooming may be scheduled during boarding stays by prior arrangement. Additional grooming fees apply.
  • Owners are encouraged to request grooming at booking to ensure availability.

Emergency Veterinary Care and Authorization

  • Owners must provide authorization for emergency veterinary treatment during their absence and identify a local veterinary practice for emergencies.
  • If a pet requires emergency care, Home Away From Home will obtain veterinary treatment and inform the owner. Owners are responsible for all costs.

Liability and Insurance

  • Home Away From Home maintains insurance appropriate for its operations but is not liable for illness or injury except in cases of gross negligence.
  • Owners are encouraged to maintain pet health insurance or ensure funds are available for emergency veterinary care.

Pick-Up Procedure and Post-Stay Notes

  • At pickup, we’ll review notes about appetite, behavior, and any concerns noticed during the stay. Final payment is collected at this time.
  • If special post-stay recommendations are needed (veterinary follow-up, behavior modification suggestions), staff will provide a brief plan or referral.

Abandonment and Unclaimed Animals

  • If a pet is not picked up within the agreed timeframe and repeated attempts to contact the owner fail, Home Away From Home may consider the animal abandoned after a period (generally seven days) and may place the animal into appropriate care or rehoming procedures in accordance with local laws. The owner remains responsible for accumulated fees.

Grievances and Complaint Resolution

  • We strive to resolve concerns promptly. If dissatisfied, owners should contact management to discuss issues. Unresolved matters may be escalated to mediation or legal avenues as necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What if my pet is on medication?

Medications are administered per instructions. Bring meds in original packaging and inform staff of timing and dosing. Additional fees may apply.

  • Are there age restrictions for boarding?

Puppies under a certain age may need vet approval and must meet vaccination requirements. Senior dogs are welcome but may require special accommodations.

  • Can my dog roam freely?

For safety, dogs are never left unsupervised in open areas. Exercise, play, and rest are scheduled and monitored.

  • How far in advance should I book for peak seasons?

Book at least 4–8 weeks in advance for holidays and peak travel times. Deposits may be required.

  • How do you handle severe weather or natural disasters?

We have emergency plans for severe weather, including evacuation procedures and veterinary coordination. Owners are contacted as soon as practicable.
